The CEREC Omnicam by Sirona is an innovative piece of dental technology that allows for orthodontists to submit digital dental impressions for the creation of custom Miami Invisalign braces. Announced in March of this year, the CEREC Omnicam, coupled with the new CEREC Ortho Software (1.1), will be available for use together in select markets this summer.

Up until now, dental impressions have been made the old fashioned way with liquid or semi-solid substances placed in a mold or tray. When a patient bites down, their teeth and surrounding soft tissue area (or gums) leave impressions in that semi-solid molding material that hardens shortly thereafter. These molds are considered “negative” imprints of the mouth, and they are then sent off to be processed and used as casts to create things like dentures, crowns, and orthodontics like Invisalign.

Though mostly foolproof, these impressions are not always totally efficient when it comes to getting prosthodontics, orthodontics, dental implants, and restorative dentistry items to patients. Things like moisture and air can affect the creation of the mold, causing “re-do’s”, and the process of creating a reproduction from a cast from a mold takes time. With this new technology, a digital impression of the hard or soft oral tissue can be made and cast almost instantaneously, cutting out the middle step at the convenience of the patient AND their dentist.

For those needing Invisalign or other orthodontic treatments in the Miami area, you are in luck: Dr. Derek Sanders of Orthodontics Only is not only the first in the city to have this technology, but one of the first in the world to be in possession of the CEREC Omnicam AND Ortho Software. A distinguished orthodontist, he has the honor of being named an Invisalign “Elite Provider”, giving him access to the latest and greatest in orthodontic and dental technology.
