In times of rapid change with COVID-19, our commitment to our orthodontic patients in Miami remains our top priority.  We will do everything to ensure a safe practice environment.  Please see below for information about the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak and appointments at Orthodontics Only.

UPDATED: May 14th, 2020

In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Orthodontics Only has taken extraordinary measures to ensure we provide all of our patients and team members with the healthiest environment around. Your well being is our top priority and in order to provide the absolutely most safe environment, we have implemented new measures that will benefit us all. Please continue reading  to learn how your Orthodontic office is keeping you safe!

Keeping Your Family Healthy

  • Our office will be open seven days a week from May 18th – July 31.  This will allow us to reduce the number of patients by 50% compared to an average day.
  • We implemented a wonderful telemedicine protocol to allow for virtual consultations for numerous types of appointments, including new patient consultations.
  • To maximize social distancing while in our office, we request only patients enter at this time.  Children may have a maximum of one adult to accompany them.
  • A facemask will be required for all visitors.  If a visitor doesn’t have a facemask, we will gladly provide one.
  • All visitors will be asked to clean their hands upon entering using a touchless hand sanitizer dispenser OR wash their hands using our touchless soap dispenser, touchless faucet and touchless paper towel dispenser.
  • All visitors will have their temperature taken and will be asked to answer a brief questionnaire about their possible exposure to the coronavirus.
  • Any visitor with a symptom of COVID-19 or who has been in direct contact with someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19, will have their in-office appointment cancelled and will be reappointed with a virtual appointment.
  • All visitors must follow social distancing guidelines by staying 6 feet away from others.
  • All surfaces that visitors come in contact with in our office will be continually disinfected using a product on the EPA’s List N against SARS-CoV-2.

The Treehouse is the Healthiest Building Around

  • Our office building, we call the “Treehouse”, is LEED Platinum Certified.  This means an independent agency rated our building as among the healthiest buildings in the world.  Our office offers a healthier work environment via biophilic design, superior indoor air quality, non-toxic building materials, reduced pollution and increased energy efficiency.
  • Construction of our office prohibited the use of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and formaldehyde (NAUF). These two compounds are very common in traditional building materials and have been shown to cause harm and negative immune responses in humans.
  • Our building is among the few buildings in Florida to produce all of the electricity that it uses.  All of our electricity is generated via 188 solar panels on our roof.
  • Our landscaping boasts almost all native species as a way to enhance our local ecosystem and protect our local environment.  Irrigation for our landscaping comes from previously fallen rainwater captured on our roof and stored in our large underground water cistern.
  • Our office uses over 40% less water than the average office via ultra low-flow automatic faucets and toilets.
  • Over 45% of our building is made from recycled materials.  Recycled plastics were used to make our chairs, carpets and blinds.

Completely Non-Touch

  • All doors in our office allow for touchless opening and closing.
  • All faucets, soap dispensers, hand sanitizer dispensers and hand drying are touchless.
  • All forms and documents in our office are now completely digital and touchless.
  • All magazines and gaming controllers have been removed from our reception area.

The Purest Water

  • We utilize the most sophisticated dental water purification system on the market, the Sterisil G5, to ensure the highest level of water purification and disinfection for our patients.  Our water purification unit provide dental water that contains 50 times less microbes than are allowed by ADA, CDC, and EPA guidelines.  The Sterisil G5 utilizes a Class A UV light that kills 99.99% of viruses.

The Cleanest Air

  • Breath Deep.  Each room in our office now has the #1 Rated Air Purifier, IQAir HealthPro Plus.  The IQAir HealthPro Plus uses HyperHEPA filtration technology proven to be the safest, healthiest and most effective way to remove 99.5% of harmful ultrafine microbes down to 0.003 microns in size. This is 100 times smaller than what is achieved with normal HEPA filters and 10 times smaller than a virus.
  • We have implemented controlled directional airflow in our office.  This ensures the flow of air moves into the treatment areas and not the reverse.
  • Our air handling system is extremely advanced and utilizes enhanced hospital grade filtration.

The Safest Orthodontic Environment

  • To maximize distancing between patients, there will be one empty chair between patients.
  • All treatment chairs have a physical barrier between them.
  • All patients will have temperature measured before and after each visit.
  • All patients will be asked to rinse with Colgate Peroxyl (1.5% hydrogen peroxide) in the chair.  Rinsing with 1.5% hydrogen peroxide has been shown to reduce the possible viral load in the mouth by 93%-97%.
  • Our sophisticated controlled directional airflow ensures the flow of air moves into the treatment areas and not the reverse.
  • An intraoral high volume evacuator will be used during any aerosol generating procedures.
  • An extraoral high volume dental air purifier, IQAir HealthPro Plus FlexVac, will be used during any aerosol generating procedures.  This unit provides maximum infection control of airborne pathogens like bacteria and viruses as small as 0.003 microns.  As a comparison, the coronavirus is 0.125 microns.
  • The air returns inside treatment rooms, have individualized MERV16 filters.  A filter value of MERV16, is considered to provide the best air filtration possible to capture harmful pathogens.  MERV16 filters are also used in general surgery rooms.
  • All surfaces in the operatory will be continually disinfected using a product on the EPA’s List N against SARS-CoV-2.
  • All orthodontic instruments are sterilized using hospital grade sterilization procedures, as usual.  Instruments will pass through our ultrasonic cleaner for 10 minutes, will be bagged and then will pass through a cycle in our hospital grade autoclaves (Midmark M11 or Statim 5000).  All of our autoclaves are tested weekly by an independent agency to ensure their effectiveness in completely killing all viruses and bacteria.

The Safest Work Environment

  • Before starting work, all team members will have their temperature taken and will be asked to answer a brief questionnaire about their possible exposure to the coronavirus.  Any team member with an elevated temperature or any symptoms of COVID-19, will be asked to go home.
  • Our clinicians will all use a N95 respirator mask or equivalent.
  • Our clinicians will use a gown, face shield and shoe covers.
  • Our gowns and shoes used during patient care will be laundered and kept on site.

UPDATED: May 2nd, 2020

We all wanted to send a big virtual hug to our entire patient family!!!  We miss you all and can’t wait to go back to our normal routine and see everyone again!  That said, we have several REALLY neat things to share.  During this down time, we have been making sweeping changes to our new office to drastically decrease the spread of germs and create one of the absolute safest office environments for our patients and visitors.  We have so much to say about this and we plan on sharing all of the details very soon.  We’re also still waiting on the arrival of desperately needed PPE.  We placed orders with several vendors over a month ago and we expect the arrival over the next two weeks.  While we would love to see patients today, our office isn’t quite ready and we don’t have the PPE that we need to be able to keep you safe….but we will very soon 🙂

We are planning a phased return to our new normal at our office.  We plan to slowly ramp up from seeing patients in a virtual manner, to seeing limited patients, to then seeing half of the normal amount of patients we would usually see.  Starting on Monday, May 18th, we plan to split our team into two groups so that our office can be open 7 days a week for the next two months, while we catch up.  We are really excited to roll out this new schedule since it will drastically increase #socialdistancing inside our office, decrease the number of people in our office, and allow an empty chair between each patient.

When is your next visit?  Our goal on Monday, May 4th is to reschedule all patients into our new 7-day schedule.  Once all appointments have been moved, we are planning on sending all patients a text and email before Tuesday, May 5th with the new appointment date and time.  While we would absolutely love to see everyone immediately when we open, it just won’t be possible with all of the new precautions we need to follow.  Please know that you have our word that we will do our absolute best to fit you into our new schedule, but we know we’re bound to fall short.  Please be patient with us as this is a huge undertaking for all of our patients and team members.  In return, we will have a very nice gift for all of our patients when we are back!  We made custom facemasks with our logo and we’d love to give you one at your next visit to say thank you for hanging in there with us over the past two months.  Just ask us at your next visit 🙂

We also are so happy to share news that we have completely upgraded our texting platform to a state of the art secure HIPAA compliant system and we now hope that texting could be one of the primary ways you can quickly get in touch with our office!  Simply text your message (include any pictures) to our office number, (305) 598-3384, and someone from our team will promptly respond during office hours.

We hope that all of our patients are healthy and are staying safe.  Please know that you can text us (305-598-3384) or Dr Sanders directly on his cell phone at anytime.  You all truly mean the world to us and please know that we are always here if you need us 🙂 🙂

COVID-19 Orthodontic Emergency****************************************************************************************************************************

UPDATED: March 25th, 2020

Reduced operations at Orthodontics Only in Miami until May 8th, 2020 with further guidance to follow…

To Our Patients and Families,

It’s times like this which make it so difficult for us as Orthodontists.  We do what we do to help our patients.  When we’re at our office, it doesn’t feel like work.  It feels like we’re with family.  And, we are!  We wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

When Governor DeSantis passed Executive Order 20-72, we realized the severe gravity of our new current life and how we’re forever changed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  In order to prevent the spread of this virus and to preserve personal protective equipment, all dental and orthodontic practices in the state of Florida were mandated to stop providing elective care until May 8th, 2020.  That means, until May 8th, 2020, we are only allowed to treat patients with severe pain, infection, limited function or a traumatic event.

We went a step further.  To create an even safer location to see our patients with emergencies and severely reduce the chances of anyone contracting the virus in our office, we moved our chairs outside and located them in our covered parking lot.  Out in the open with a nice breeze.  No need to touch anything to get to our emergency chairs.  And, we’ll be here every single Monday-Thursday at 9am to help any one of our patients in need.

The American Association of Orthodontists published a very nice resource page explaining procedures that we are allowed to deliver under our new executive order and mandate.  Most of what we’ve been doing is to cut long wires that are causing pain or to remove appliances that are puncturing.

During the entire time we are not working in the office, our team will be working from home.  They will all be compensated and cared for as if we were working as normal.  As all of you know, our team is unlike any other team in the country.  Our team at Orthodontics Only is truly our pride and joy as a practice.  All current patients, you already know the feeling of walking into our office and the instant warmth that is felt.  All future patients, we can’t wait to meet you and for you to feel the difference our office has to offer.  I will guarantee there is no other orthodontic practice like our office on earth.

Any current patient who needs to reschedule your appointment, please send an email to [email protected] and provide a few dates (Monday-Thursday) and times that could work for your next appointment.  We will do our best to reply to your email as quickly as we can.

Any current patient who has any type of financial question or concern, please send an email to [email protected].  We will do our best to reply to your email as quickly as we can.

For new patients wanting to schedule a consultation, we would love to help!  We set up a new email address to help assist and provide you with additional information.  Please send your questions and information to [email protected].

During this 7 week break, we have so many exciting new and exciting things coming.  You know we can’t sit still!!  Please stay tuned and we promise that everything we will do from this point on will be for the benefit of our patients.  🙂 🙂 🙂

Wishing all of our patient families health and safety during these very tough times.  If you need us, we’re always here.

UPDATED: March 17th, 2020

Orthodontics Only will close from Tuesday, March 17th through Sunday, April 5th with further guidance to follow…

To Our Patients and Families,

This has no doubt been an incredibly tough time for all of us. Like the rest of the world, we have been closely tracking every new development related to COVID-19 and have been in constant contact with local health officials for guidance. Without question, our top priority has been the health and wellbeing of our patients and team members – and to no lesser extent the health and wellbeing of our local Miami-Dade community. We know each decision we make has a broad impact far beyond our practice operations.

With the most updated information from health officials to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, we made the difficult decision to suspend our normal practice operations starting Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 through Sunday, April 5th, 2020. We plan to have a very limited number of orthodontic clinicians to help any of our current patients with emergencies and plan to have a very limited number of patient coordinators to help return messages left on our voicemail.

Any current patients with a severe emergency, please arrive at our office from Monday-Thursday at 9am, so you can be seen by one of our orthodontic clinicians. We ask for your patience as we practice social distancing in our office and will only have a limited number of clinicians to help.

These are unprecedented, challenging times for everyone. We will continue to navigate these uncharted waters with our patients, team members and our local Miami-Dade communities. I am certain that there have been, and will be, moments where we will miss the mark and potentially disappoint. However, rest assured that we will continue to make the best decisions we can for everyone’s health and wellbeing.

To Our Patients and Families,

As your leading orthodontic practice in Miami, treating 30,000+ patients over the past 35+ years, our board certified doctors and team members continue to monitor the rapidly evolving impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19).  Unwaveringly and without question, our top priority is the health and wellbeing of our patients, guests and team members.  We are fortunate to have strong partnerships with local hospitals, government agencies, police departments and fire rescue in our community.  As such, we are closely monitoring the statements and following the guidance and recommendations from Miami-Dade, Florida and federal health agencies on COVID-19.

Over the past two weeks, we have been beyond thrilled to welcome patients into our new office at 9211 Sunset Drive.  Our new facility offers so many distinct health and well-being benefits and we wanted to share them with you:

  • Anyone entering or exiting our office will be required to use hand sanitizer.
  • For routine visits, we are requesting only patients enter our We request that parents or drivers please stay in your vehicle and our board certified doctors will be happy to chat with you virtually via FaceTime or video to review what was completed.  We highly welcome the continual use of FaceTime or video chat on a patients device, during the visit.

Our board certified doctors are in constant contact with health officials and will continue to follow their updated guidance as provided. This means there could be additional precautions taken that could impact our office operations at any time.

We have set up two new email addresses to help with appointments ([email protected]) and financials ([email protected]).   Please feel free to send us a message at either of these addresses so we can help you in a virtual manner.  These email address will be constantly monitored and we expect a response time of less than 24 hours during the normal work day.

The health and wellbeing of our patients, guests, team members, and our local Miami-Dade community – where we live, work and play, is of utmost importance.  We thank everyone for their understanding during this unprecedented time.
