Reduced operations at Orthodontics Only in Miami until May 8th, 2020 with further guidance to follow…

To Our Patients and Families,

It’s times like this which make it so difficult for us as Orthodontists.  We do what we do to help our patients.  When we’re at our office, it doesn’t feel like work.  It feels like we’re with family.  And, we are!  We wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

When Governor DeSantis passed Executive Order 20-72, we realized the severe gravity of our new current life and how we’re forever changed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  In order to prevent the spread of this virus and to preserve personal protective equipment, all dental and orthodontic practices in the state of Florida were mandated to stop providing elective care until May 8th, 2020.  That means, until May 8th, 2020, we are only allowed to treat patients with severe pain, infection, limited function or a traumatic event.

We went a step further.  To create an even safer location to see our patients with emergencies and severely reduce the chances of anyone contracting the virus in our office, we moved our chairs outside and located them in our covered parking lot.  Out in the open with a nice breeze.  No need to touch anything to get to our emergency chairs.  And, we’ll be here every single Monday-Thursday at 9am to help any one of our patients in need.

The American Association of Orthodontists published a very nice resource page explaining procedures that we are allowed to deliver under our new executive order and mandate.  Most of what we’ve been doing is to cut long wires that are causing pain or to remove appliances that are puncturing.

During the entire time we are not working in the office, our team will be working from home.  They will all be compensated and cared for as if we were working as normal.  As all of you know, our team is unlike any other team in the country.  Our team at Orthodontics Only is truly our pride and joy as a practice.  All current patients, you already know the feeling of walking into our office and the instant warmth that is felt.  All future patients, we can’t wait to meet you and for you to feel the difference our office has to offer.  I will guarantee there is no other orthodontic practice like our office on earth.

Any current patient who needs to reschedule your appointment, please send an email to [email protected] and provide a few dates (Monday-Thursday) and times that could work for your next appointment.  We will do our best to reply to your email as quickly as we can.

Any current patient who has any type of financial question or concern, please send an email to [email protected].  We will do our best to reply to your email as quickly as we can.

For new patients wanting to schedule a consultation, we would love to help!  We set up a new email address to help assist and provide you with additional information.  Please send your questions and information to [email protected].

During this 7 week break, we have so many exciting new and exciting things coming.  You know we can’t sit still!!  Please stay tuned and we promise that everything we will do from this point on will be for the benefit of our patients.  🙂 🙂 🙂

Wishing all of our patient families health and safety during these very tough times.  If you need us, we’re always here.

Sincerely,

Dr Derek Sanders, Board Certified Orthodontist

UPDATED: March 17th, 2020

Orthodontics Only will close from Tuesday, March 17th through Sunday, April 5th with further guidance to follow…

To Our Patients and Families,

This has no doubt been an incredibly tough time for all of us. Like the rest of the world, we have been closely tracking every new development related to COVID-19 and have been in constant contact with local health officials for guidance. Without question, our top priority has been the health and wellbeing of our patients and team members – and to no lesser extent the health and wellbeing of our local Miami-Dade community. We know each decision we make has a broad impact far beyond our practice operations.

With the most updated information from health officials to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, we made the difficult decision to suspend our normal practice operations starting Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 through Sunday, April 5th, 2020. We plan to have a very limited number of orthodontic clinicians to help any of our current patients with emergencies and plan to have a very limited number of patient coordinators to help return messages left on our voicemail.

Any current patients with a severe emergency, please arrive at our office from Monday-Thursday at 9am, so you can be seen by one of our orthodontic clinicians. We ask for your patience as we practice social distancing in our office and will only have a limited number of clinicians to help.

These are unprecedented, challenging times for everyone. We will continue to navigate these uncharted waters with our patients, team members and our local Miami-Dade communities. I am certain that there have been, and will be, moments where we will miss the mark and potentially disappoint. However, rest assured that we will continue to make the best decisions we can for everyone’s health and wellbeing.

UPDATE: March 15th, 2020

To Our Patients and Families,

As your leading orthodontic practice in Miami, treating 30,000+ patients over the past 35+ years, our board certified doctors and team members continue to monitor the rapidly evolving impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19).  Unwaveringly and without question, our top priority is the health and wellbeing of our patients, guests and team members.  We are fortunate to have strong partnerships with local hospitals, government agencies, police departments and fire rescue in our community.  As such, we are closely monitoring the statements and following the guidance and recommendations from Miami-Dade, Florida and federal health agencies on COVID-19.

Over the past two weeks, we have been beyond thrilled to welcome patients into our new office at 9211 Sunset Drive.  Our new facility offers so many distinct health and well-being benefits and we wanted to share them with you:

  • Ample non-touch hand sanitizer stations available for all guests.
  • All soap dispensers, faucets and paper towel dispensers are touch free.
  • Full time maintenance/janitorial team member to ensure strict protocols of enhanced infection control, including continual disinfecting of all handles & surfaces.
  • Touch free navigation to/from all clinical areas.
  • Large open spaces with indoor plants and trees to help detoxify and purify indoor air.
  • Highly advanced air conditioning system using hospital grade air filters (MERV-13) to remove harmful bacteria and pathogens from the air including bringing the maximum amount of fresh air into the office.
  • Utilization of the most sophisticated dental water purification system (Sterisil G5) on the market. Our Sterisil G5 offers the absolute highest level of water purification and disinfection providing the safest water possible for our patients.
  • Construction of our office prohibited the use of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and formaldehyde (NAUF). These two compounds are very common in traditional building materials and have been shown to cause harm and negative immune responses in humans.

As of today, our office will be open and operating as scheduled, according to the most updated guidance and precautions from health officials.  In light of the current status on preventing the spread of COVID-19, we are also following and exceeding all CDC recommendations for office and health care facilities.  As such, we will begin to deploy specific actions to encourage social distancing and limited office visitors as we all try to slow the spread of COVID-19.  Our actions include:

  • Anyone entering or exiting our office will be required to use hand sanitizer.
  • For routine visits, we are requesting only patients enter our We request that parents or drivers please stay in your vehicle and our board certified doctors will be happy to chat with you virtually via FaceTime or video to review what was completed.  We highly welcome the continual use of FaceTime or video chat on a patients device, during the visit.
  • For any consultation or lengthy visit, we would like to limit only one additional person accompanying each patient.
  • We request anyone in the waiting room to sit 6 feet apart from each other.
  • Patients will be required to wash their hands with soap and water before and after each visit.
  • Any patient, visitor or team member displaying any symptoms of a cold including runny nose, cough, shortness of breath or fever, we ask to please stay at home and not to enter our office.
  • Any patient, visitor or team member who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, under suspicion of COVID-19, or had any type of close contact with anyone else who was either diagnosed or under suspicion of COVID-19, will not be allowed to enter our office. Entering our office will only be allowed after a 14 day period and after being cleared by a physician.

Our board certified doctors are in constant contact with health officials and will continue to follow their updated guidance as provided. This means there could be additional precautions taken that could impact our office operations at any time.

We have set up two new email addresses to help with appointments ([email protected]) and financials ([email protected]).   Please feel free to send us a message at either of these addresses so we can help you in a virtual manner.  These email address will be constantly monitored and we expect a response time of less than 24 hours during the normal work day.

The health and wellbeing of our patients, guests, team members, and our local Miami-Dade community – where we live, work and play, is of utmost importance.  We thank everyone for their understanding during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Your Entire Orthodontics Only Team
