CEREC is responsible for many major innovations in dental technology, including the Omnicam, which allows for orthodontists to submit a digital dental impression of the entire jaw for the creation of custom Invisalign braces and other orthodontics. Released in March, the CEREC Omnicam, coupled with the new CEREC Ortho Software (1.1), will be available for use this summer in select cities and regions across the country.

Up until now, dental impressions for orthodontics have been made the old fashioned way with liquid or semi-solid molding substances placed in a plastic or metal tray. When a patient bites down, their hard tissue area (teeth) and surrounding soft tissue area (gums) leave impressions in that semi-solid molding material that eventually hardens. These molds are considered “negative” imprints of the mouth, and they are then sent off to be processed and used as casts to create orthodontics like Invisalign.

Though mostly foolproof, these types of impressions are not always perfect. User error or environmental factors can cost patients and dentists comfort and time. With this new technology from CEREC, a digital impression of the hard or soft oral tissue can be made effortlessly and almost instantaneously, cutting out the middle step at the convenience of the patient and their dentist, AND starting the patient’s treatment earlier than usual. Plus, the CEREC Omnicam is the smallest, powder-free camera on the market, which makes for a much more comfortable experience for the patient as well.

CEREC is the brand to trust when it comes to dental technology, for all of the aforementioned reasons, and because it has been developing its technology since its inception 30 years ago. Now, CEREC is the most used dental CAD/CAM system worldwide. Not only is it a leader in the creation of dental ceramics, it has also now entered the forefront of the orthodontics technology and software race, especially by partnering with Align Technology, umbrella company of Invisalign.

For those seeking Invisalign or other orthodontic treatments in the Miami area, look no further than Dr. Derek Sanders of Orthodontics Only. Dr. Sanders is not only the first in the city to have this CEREC Omnicam technology, but the first in the world to be in possession of the CEREC Omnicam and its accompanying Ortho Software. A distinguished orthodontist, he has the honor of being named an Invisalign “Elite Provider”, giving him access to the latest and greatest in dental technology, such as these CEREC products.
